Define it any way you like: sleeping in, sitting on your deck with a cool drink (and maybe visiting, reading, or just gazing out over the lake), watching a beaver tug a log across the water to its ever-growing home, thrilling to a kid catching that first fish, paddling a canoe, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs over an open fire, seeing more stars than you ever thought the sky could hold, watching the sunset or a wild display of northern lights, playing Scrabble or "Go Fish," wandering along picking fresh berries (that MIGHT make it home for pancakes or a pie), hunting for wildflowers…or plodding along on snowshoes looking for animal tracks, swishing through the quiet forest on cross country skis, taking your time as you travel by snowmobile to places that are rarely encountered - and having a moose use your tracks for easier traveling, or pulling a fish from a hole in the ice…it's a break in your daily routine that gives you a chance to relax and recharge. If you'd welcome a place where the phone doesn't ring, and the only thing you need to dress for is the weather, and the biggest road has two lanes…this is it. And when you start to call it "daytime" and "nighttime" instead of naming hours and minutes, you're getting there. Most folks say that it happens on the third day - so plan to stay for a few.
